We had a very quick tornado cloud come over the house and disappear before I really registered it.
That set off the county emergency broadcast alarm and every phone in the house lit up.

With several elderly neighbors staying here instead of in mobile homes there were live eight phones broadcasting within a few seconds of each other.

The rain is strong and the wind is not near what we were expecting so I think we will be far better off than those in the big bend.

Coastal surge is bad but not 16 feet like was forecast, at least yet.

The local news tells me that the latest hurricane hunter reports have Idalia as a cat 4 not 3 like is on the current weather news.

@Number7 @Little Joe  Anybody else in Florida I forgot about?

How are you?
I'm on the East Coast so I'm not getting the brunt of it.  But one of the long outer bands is sliding right over my house lengthwise so it looks like we are in for a lot of rain all day, but winds are generally less than 30mph.  More importantly, the intra-coastal waterway across the street seems to be staying put.

I bought a really nice, quiet but small extra generator last year after Nicole so I don't believe we will lose power.  That's what those things are good for.

Wow. YouTube termites are rooting out young black conservatives.   They demonetized his channel because he "promotes hate and violence". He does the LITERAL OPPOSITE. His entire channel is calling out violence and asking what can we do to stop it. This is outrageous.

Blacks are NOT allowed off the leftist plantation or they will suffer the consequences.

Nobody is more racist than democrats.

Keep in mind, the president typically doesn’t do his own research and depends on staffers.

We all know (now) there were a lot of people out to sabotage Trump in his administration.
True.  I do remember when he also said about a month earlier "We can’t let the cure be worse than the problem itself".

I had an awful doctor's visit today for my "every other year" physical.

Everyone was wearing masks.  My hearing is probably on a par with Rush's and I had to ask them to repeat almost everything if I thought it was important.
But I wanted to get out of there asap, so I just nodded and didn't ask any questions and I was out pretty quickly.  I'll wait for them to post the patient discharge letter to see what we talked about.

I usually donate, mostly thru Salvation Army but they pissed me off when they went woke a year or ago. But the requests don’t stop. I’ll research your suggestions and donate there, or elsewhere depending what I find.

I stopped direct giving to the Salvation Army and Methodists for the same woke reasons.

IDES has become my first choice because they are solution oriented.

Once the storm pulls out I'll be heading somewhere to help, but have no idea where just yet. We think Crystal River out thru Gainesville will be get the worst, but who knows.

Becky kindly reminded me that there are still good folks wanting to help those impacted by Hurricane Idalia.

As you no doubt already know, Idalia is expected to arrive in the Big Bend area of Florida very late tomorrow night/Weds morning around 1 AM, or so. Those forecasts tend to remain fluid till the end.

IDES - International Disaster Emergency Service

https://ides.org/

is a ministry based emergency disaster relief organization made up of volunteers who give their all in times like this.

In the days following hurricane ian besides food, water, medicine, clothes and household good, IDES brought in great big pods and had volunteer laborers helping people load their undamaged possessions to be kept safe until their homes could be restored and made watertight.

We were proud to send loads of rice and beans to the earthquake victims in Africa earlier this year, as well as build and often rebuild wells for villages without good water supplies, and bring relief to El Salvador and Haiti to name a few.

Their financial disclosures are posted on the website if you wish to see how they use their donations.

Another org I like is UMCOR - United Methodist Committee on Relief.

https://umcmission.org/united-states-disaster-response/

They proudly disclose that 100% of their donations go directly to relief. Admin costs are provided by the UMC and World Council of Churches. Their volunteers tend to be quite elderly and every bit as dedicated as IDES and the Salvation Army.

Here is a link to some of the recent and current relief efforts:  https://umcmission.org/umcor-us-latest-responses/

Once we see where and how bad Florida gets hit, the websites will be updated to disclose how both orgs are responding.

Thanks Becky for reminding me disclose where and how to help.

In the four indictments, which one(s) have the charge of insurrection?

Since when did an inconvenient law stop a democrat communist?

The Dems are probably looking at this.

Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution
Equal Protection and Other Rights

Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
IMHO, that is the sole reasons for some of the indictments.  They want to convict him of insurrection so he can't be President again.  Otherwise, he could be President from his prison cell.

Liberal Dies On Toilet While Awaiting CDC Guidance On How To Wipe

SEATTLE, WA — Liberal man Jonathan Seymour passed away, dying on the toilet as he awaited instructions from the Center for Disease Control on how to wipe his own butt.

"I kept telling him to just go for it," said housemate Ronald Mills. "Jonathan just wouldn't take the risk."

Officials say Mr. Seymour became severely dehydrated as he refused to move from the toilet for either food or water. "What am I supposed to do??" cried Mr. Seymour, desperate for guidance. "I can't to do this alone! Front to back? Back to front? Folded or unfolded? How many squares? Speak to me, Fauci!"

Sadly, bereft of instruction from the CDC, Mr. Seymour remained on the commode until his untimely passing. "It's really tragic," said Mr. Mills. "No one should ever die because they don't know how to wipe. I promise you this, I will not rest until the CDC issues guidance on how a person is supposed to wipe their butt. If I can save just one person from dying on the toilet, it feels like Jonathan's death will have meant something."

They have cathedrals like that in Wisconsin? You'd think you were flying over somewhere in Europe.
We do, and they all came from European influence.

The Basilica of St Josaphat in Milwaukee is one example. We go to Christmas Mass there whenever possible.

It was built by polish immigrants using whatever materials were available. For example, the giant “marble” pillars are wood and plaster surrounding a steel substructure, painted to look like marble.

The giant doors and brass hardware came from an old post office in Chicago, and the knobs have USPS on them. These immigrants were not wealthy, but they did what they had to do. It’s beautiful.

Sorry for borrowing your thread, Becky!

Becky, I wouldn’t worry about your husband in that. I have 110 hours in a CAF 1943 Fairchild PT-26, and they are good airplanes. The PT-26 is the closed cockpit version of the PT-19, and the PT-23 is the radial engine variant of the PT-19.

This is me flying over Holy Hill in Wisconsin. They are solid aircraft and a blast to fly.
